Canadians only can apply for a work/ business visa or private visa if being invited by the spouse and will require approval from the Russian Ministry of Interior.

Additional requirements for applicants born in the former USSR or Russia
Applicants MUST submit the following documents:
• Evidence of emigration. Original copy of old passport and stamps showing date of emigration. If applicant emigrated on a parent's passport, then parents’ emigration papers must be submitted, including copies of passport pages showing the children included in their passport.
• Naturalization Certificate. Original copy of the applicant's Naturalization Certificate.
• Renunciation Certificate. Original copy of the Certificate of Renunciation of Citizenship from the Russian Embassy (if available).
• Naturalization Certificate. Original copy of the applicant's Naturalization Certificate.
• Renunciation Certificate. Original copy of the Certificate of Renunciation of Citizenship from the Russian Embassy (if available).
The embassy may request additional documents and a personal interview, at their discretion.

All travelers will need a passport valid for at least 90 days following your departure date from Russia. However, we strongly recommend traveling with 6 months validity on your passport at all times. Citizens of Canada can refer to www.canada.ca for forms and instructions for new passport applications and Canadian passport renewals. Most destinations, including Russia, require that you have adequate unused pages in your passport, allowing for any necessary stamps upon arrival and departure. We recommend that you have at least two free pages in Visas section of your passport before any international travel. Canadian citizens cannot add extra passport pages to their passports.
